Our subscription-based office interiors concept Circle went from a speculative idea to a new business venture.
The SaaS concept, or Software as a Service, ensures the service or product is always up-to-date and instantly available. When needs change, people can simply cancel their subscription. At SPACE10, we were curious to explore ‘X as a Service’ beyond the digital sphere — through the lens of sustainability, circularity, and how the adaptable concept might benefit everyday life.
Fresh approaches to the workplace
Like our homes, our workplaces need to be more flexible than ever before. Circle brings rental furniture to office spaces — in a convenient and sustainable way. Via a website, companies define their physical space and the activities that take place there, like meetings or private video calls. They upload a 2D floorplan, which Circle converts into a 3D replica, letting the client see how different furniture solutions will look in their actual space.
As Circle retains ownership of the furniture, it ensures that every piece is reused, refurbished, or recycled across its life cycle. For the subscriber, this means they can outsource maintenance, avoid the logistical hassle of moving bulky furniture to a new office, and streamline sourcing or returning furniture when their teams change size.
Flexible, circular, affordable — and viable
Circle is an example of how a business idea (when it consistently proves its viability) moves from exploration into a venture within the SPACE10 framework. We contributed to NORNORM with technology development, strategy and design work, as well as consultancy and network facilitation.
